To split screen in Windows 10 , simply drag a window all the way to one side of the screen until it snaps into place. Then select another window to fill the other half of your screen. Drag one of the windows by its title bar to the left or right side of the screen. You'll see an outline of the window appear - release your mouse and the window will snap into that outlined position.
You should now see all your other open programs appear in thumbnails on the opposite side of the screen. Click one of the other program windows. It will snap to the other side of the screen, so you'll have two windows side by side. Quick tip: You can adjust the amount of space each window takes up by hovering your mouse between the windows, at which point the cursor will turn into a two-headed arrow that you can click and drag to change the width of each window.
If you have a larger display, you can snap up to four windows to the screen - one in each corner. Called extended display, this feature allows you to view two or more program windows at the same time, one per monitor. Follow the steps below to turn on extended display for your version of Windows. In step 2 above, if you select Duplicate these displays , each of your monitors display the same screen. When doing a presentation and connecting your computer to a projector, duplicate displays can be very useful to show others what you are viewing on your computer monitor.
To turn off extended display, in step 2 above, select one of the Show only on options, depending on which monitor you want to use. In step 2, if you select Duplicate these displays , each of your monitors display the same screen. First, you will need to have a few windows open on a single desktop. You can either hold the Windows key down and tap the right or left arrow key.
This will move your active window to one side. All other windows will appear on the other side of the screen. You just choose the one you want and it becomes the other half of the split-screen. You do need to click on each window to make them active, but you can now see more information on your screen. If you have a touchscreen device, you can drag a window to the side, and it will dock there like a split-screen.
It is also possible to have four split-screens by holding down the Windows key and clicking the up key once you have split the screen. I do find that problematic on a small laptop, but if you have the ability to plug in an external screen, then you can have four quite workable spaces in front of you at any time. In the upper left-hand corner of a window, there are three dots. Hold down the full-screen button, which is the dot on the right-hand side.
When you hold this button down, the window will shrink allowing you to drag it to the right or or left side of your screen. Release the button. Then to add a window on the other side, just click on it and you can begin to work in split-screen mode.
This means that you will need to click on the side that you need to work on to activate it.
